Vincent Carrao DDS, MD, FACS

Dr. Vincent Carrao is currently in private practice and is the former Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital, where he also served as program director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program. Dr. Carrao is board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a past president of the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a board examiner for the American Board of OMS and was part of the national committee for OMS residency, education and training.

Dr. Carrao began his career as an undergraduate student at New York University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He continued his education at Columbia University’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery where he obtained a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1993. His desire to become a surgeon led him to acceptance into Columbia Presbyterian’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program. As part of this 6-year training program he received a medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. In solidification of his medical degree, Dr. Carrao also completed 1-year of general surgery training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

Upon completion of surgical training, Dr. Carrao entered into private practice and obtained hospital privileges at both New York Presbyterian Hospital and Holy Name Hospital. As time progressed, Dr. Carrao became an Assistant Clinical Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University establishing himself as an integral part of the residency training program, where he provided teaching, supervision and expertise over the many major maxillofacial, reconstructive and pathology cases. Through his dedication to teaching he was appointed as the Associate Program Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University / New York Presbyterian Hospital. He thus was ultimately recruited to serve as Chief of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Secondary to his belief in teaching and dedication to patient care, Dr Carrao belongs to “Healing the Children”, a volunteer organization that provides medical and surgical care worldwide. His humanitarian efforts combined with surgical expertise leads to a yearly volunteer surgical mission to various third world nations to treat children with cleft lip and palate.

Dr. Carrao’s areas of expertise include orthognathic surgery, reconstructive jaw surgery, cleft lip and palate, oral pathology, TMJ, wisdom teeth, dental extractions and implants.
